Legal matters vary enormously in scope, so the more context your post includes, the more relevant the responses you'll get. A strong post specifies:
- General nature of the matter: the practice area involved (family law, business dispute, real estate, estate planning, personal injury, and so on) and a brief, factual summary, without needing to share sensitive details publicly
- Where things stand: whether this is an early-stage question, an active dispute, a pending deadline, or ongoing representation you're looking to switch
- Timeline pressure: any known deadlines, court dates, or filing windows that affect urgency
- Preferred fee structure, if you have one: whether you're looking for a flat fee, hourly, or contingency arrangement, if the matter type allows for it
- Consultation preference: whether you'd prefer an in-person, phone, or video consultation
You're not expected to share privileged details in your initial post. A general description is enough for an attorney to determine whether the matter fits their practice and respond with next steps.
